Daniel Sauer of the Ripon Police Department receives congratulations from Mayor Michael Restuccia at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council.

He’s now the 11th Police Chief for the City of Ripon.

Daniel Sauer of the Ripon Police Department was administered the oath of office by City Clerk Lisa Roos at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting.

He took over the post held by Ed Ormonde, who retired last month after a distinguished 21-year career in law enforcement.

Danny Sauer’s dedication to the department and community came without question.

“You’ve proven that you have the ability to continue on the process we have in place. You’re respected by your peers, this council, and the people who work you with – plus you came highly recommended,” said Restuccia.

Sauer has been with the Ripon Police Department for 21 years. He attended the police academy in Modesto – specifically, the Ray Simon Regional Criminal Justice Training Center – graduating in June 2002. A month later, he was hired by RPD.

About two years later, Sauer was assigned to the Investigations Division as a detective.

It didn’t take too long for him to become a Field Training Officer.

Sauer was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2013 as he continued to excel in his career.

By 2018, he was Police Lieutenant. Sauer’s duty consisted of overseeing major divisions within the police department.

He was the logical choice to become the next police chief. Sauer, throughout the years, not only a strong leader by displayed integrity and exceptional decision-making skills.

His family along with the entire department was on hand during his swearing-in ceremony in the Council Chamber. Sauer’s wife, Carla, had the honor of distributing him with his new police chief collar pin while his daughter Olivia presented him with the jacket.

“Thank you for appointing me as chief,” said Sauer to the elected leaders. “This has been a special night.”
