The Ripon Unified School District announced Wednesday that longtime board member Christina Orlando will resign effective June 24.
She was first elected to the school board in 2012, which was prior to Trustee Area voting. Orlando currently serves Trustee Area 5, consisting of east Jack Tone Road, bounded by a large section north of the Stanislaus River.
Her Trustee Area seat is set to expire in November.
“It is the intention of the Board of Education to appoint a person to fill this vacancy until the next trustee election in November 2024. The board encourages interested citizens and registered voters in Area 5 to consider applying to become a member of the Ripon Unified school board,” said RUSD via press release.
Candidates must be:
· Committed to the success of all students.
· Attend and participate in governance training.
· Commit the time to participate in the board’s work study issues, interact with constituents, and available to attend evening board meetings along with the occasional special board meetings and other events.
Those interested and living in Trustee Area 5 can pick up an online Candidate Information Sheet at www.riponusd.net.
They’re also required to submit a resume online no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, June 7.
In addition, a subcommittee will review all applications to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
From there, the applicants will be interviewed by the school board at a public meeting at a date and time to be determined.
The provisional appointment will be made at the June or July board meeting.
