A family a decade ago was getting ready to move into the first home at River Islands that they signed papers to buy in June 2014.
Today, they are one of 4,200 or so families that now call the planned community home.
That means — based on typical single family housing yields of 3.1 people per household — there is now somewhere in the neighborhood of 13,020 people living in the community.
River Islands reached a major milestone as a community in August when it opened its own permanent high school campus.
Another milestone is underscored by the Del Webb neighborhood for those 55 years old plus now selling homes.
Roughly 10 percent of the 900 homes to be built by Del Webb will be on lots backing up to the lake.
Del Webb designed a community with its own master plan within the River Islands masterplan. It includes its own lake, recreation center, pool, fitness center and sports courts.
Besides the lake, there will also be three other parks.
The new Del Webb community is being developed next to River Islands High.
Future plans call for a performing arts center by the high school that will be used for community and school events.
New home sales are expected to exceed 400 by year’s end.
That’s less than the 551 homes sold in 2023.
Part of the lower number of sales reflects time periods this year when there were little or no lots available in the various neighborhoods under construction.
River Islands is envisioned to eventually have 15,001 homes.
