Ripon Unified board recognizing students in county spelling bee

Dylan McKee of Colony Oak Elementary School was among the local participants at the recent San Joaquin County Spelling Bee Championships. He and others will be recognized at Wednesday’s Ripon Unified school board meeting.

Trustees of the Ripon Unified School District will recognize local participants of the 27th annual San Joaquin Spelling Bee Championships on Wednesday.

That’ll take place during the monthly 7 p.m. session in the Ripon City Hall Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

Honored will be the fourth- through sixth- grade students (Elementary Division) at Colony Oak (Marissa Roberts, Jacen Sarratt), Park View (Emily Brannon, Pehaj Dhindsa), Ripon Elementary (Pari Patel, Eli Van Duyn), Ripona (Caleb Partan, Anistyn Keller), and Weston (Malakai Guzman, Emerson Jimenez).

The Junior High Division (grades 7-9) consisted of those from Colony Oak (Jacob Machado, Dylan McKee), Park View (Gurnaaz Sidhu, Salina Epperson), Ripon Elementary (Jayson Randall, Ava Morton), Ripona (Emma Franco, Elijah Gupton), Weston (James Budil, Kaelin Blakemore), and Ripon High (Adhyaksa Naatamai, Lizzie Meredith).

The school board will also recognize the RHS boys water polo team for their outstanding performance in winning the 2024 CIF Nor Cal Championship in Division III.

In other agenda items:

• Park View Principal Victor Ramirez along with students and staff will conduct a presentation on the school year.

• RHS choir under the direction of Philip Fiorio will perform “Carol of the Bells” and “Silent Night.”

• Reorganization of the school board will include the oath of office being administered to Harpal Chandar and Caroline Hutto, who both ran unopposed at the recent election, coupled with the election of officers (president, vice president, clerk, and board secretary).

• Director of Curriculum & Instruction Dana Phelps will share the Music Professional Development “Adding to the Toolbox.”

• Director of Student Services Lisa Mazza will speak on the Universal Screener.

• Harvest High Principal Kathryn Diederich will provide a presentation on the Oral Language Proficiency Assessment.
