Ripon Unified board may extend distance learning due to COVID
TUSD distance learning
Distance learning may end sooner than anticipated for Turlock elementary students as the county’s 14-day COVID-19 case rate continues to drop (Photo contributed).

A special session of the Ripon Unified school board is planned for 12:30 p.m. today in the district office, 304 N. Acacia Ave.

Trustees will discuss RUSD’s reopening to in-person instruction and Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new school re-opening plan.

The latter is a $2 billion “Safe Schools for All” plan to encourage more schools to reopen for in-person instruction in 2021. Newsom’s new school re-opening plan is available to those schools in counties with fewer than 28 positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population.

Prior to the winter break, the RUSD board agreed that for the exception of Tier 3 classes and Career Technical Education, students were to make a full return to on-campus instructions come Monday, Jan. 11.

This week is the continuance of remote class instructions for most RUSD students. Trustees could consider taking action to extend distance learning for students as a result of the holiday period coupled with the current coronavirus data.

They’ll also discuss employee matters, student discipline, and the ongoing process of Superintendent Ziggy Robeson’s evaluation in closed session.

In an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the meeting will be available exclusively online at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCpUWbW1dQJHIH7J.

Those looking to provide input on anything not on the agenda can submit public comments to: RiponDistrictAdmin@riponusd.net by 11:30 this morning.
