For nearly 20 years, the Ripon Recycling Center operated in partnership with the City of Ripon, the Ripon Unified Parents Faculty Clubs, and American Recycling.
But that’s about to change.
Mayor Leo Zuber announced at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting the reorganizing of the local recycling program, with the RUSD group having recently pulled out.
“It is still running the same hours (of operation),” he said, adding that city employees are the ones who have been helping to keep it open.
The facility located at 178 S. Industrial Ave.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
As part of the reorganization, the City of Ripon is offering residents and businesses the unique opportunity to be part of the Recycling Center.
In doing so, they’ll be allowed to drop off recycled materials with 100 percent of the revenue generated from the sales of recycled materials to go towards the local nonprofits serving as volunteers.
The participation hours could vary.
The Recycling Center is typically staffed by volunteers, who put in eight hours per week, with all proceeds from the recycled materials being distributed back to the non-profit groups.
Each year, residents and businesses will drop off their recyclable materials at the Recycling Center, saving the City of Ripon and its residents the expense of disposing these materials while generating revenue for the non-profits.
