Ripon putting final touches on new city facility

A change order was recently approved by the Ripon City Council on the nearly completed Fleet Maintenance Facility on Doak Boulevard near Stockton Avenue.

The Ripon City Council approved a change order last week for additional electrical circuit, vinyl window tint, and gas piping to the Fleet Maintenance Facility.

This marked Change Order No. 13 for the project that was awarded to Diede Construction back in December 2022. This cost was not to exceed $28,917, paid via the Corp Yard AB1600, Enterprise Capital Funds, and General Capital Fund.

Council, as part of that 2022 bid, approved about $1.1 million for construction contingency for the new corporate yard located on Doak Boulevard, near Stockton Avenue.

“Change Order No. 1 did not utilize the project contingency because the work was performed at the (adjacent) Wastewater Treatment Plant disposal ponds,” said Public Works Director James Pease in his staff report.

The total remaining contingency, he added, after subtracting the other change orders – specifically, No. 2 through No. 13 – is $660,144.

Pease noted that the electrical circuit for the most recent change order was an add-on to the Wash system, which requires an additional 480-volt circuit that was not part of the original plans.

The vinyl window tint is for the restrooms. Window shades were part of the original plans, but, Pease said, “the pores in these shades could not hold water.”

As for the gas piping, he added that this part would connect to equipment to the wash building, which is required for equipment functionality.

Elected leaders also approved the purchase of the mobile vehicle column lifts from Stertil-Koni, which is the market leader in safe and dependable heavy-duty vehicle lifts.

Councilman Gary Barton asked if the current lift was insufficient.

“The current lifts are not sufficient for the needs of staff – these are portable lifts, allowing staff to move the lifts to vehicles that may not be able to fit in a stationary lift location,” Pease said.

The Fleet Maintenance Facility is a 12,500 square foot maintenance building and parking lot that’s nearing completion.

The current cost for the project with the listed change orders is at $11.9 million, according to the July 9 staff report.
