In honor of its agricultural roots, the Ripon Police Department created a belt buckle that some non-uniformed personnel could soon be wearing.
And the other Ripon Police Department wants to get their hands on one too.
Just hours after the Ripon Police Department posted a picture of the new belt buckle, the other Ripon Police Department – from Ripon, Wisconsin – commented on the Facebook post claiming that they would love to have one sent their way as well.
Representatives from “The Almond Capital of the World” will be in touch with the “Birthplace of the Republican Party” about the buckle soon, according to their exchange on social media.
“Being in the valley we wanted to honor our past and present, as we have many staff that come from long family lines with local ties to agriculture and dairy,” the Ripon PD said in a statement about the buckles. “With that, just arriving today, our new department belt buckles.
“Although you won’t see uniformed staff donning them, you might see some of our non-uniformed staff wearing them on-duty.”
While Ripon, California has long been at the core of California’s lucrative almond industry, Ripon Wisconsin can lay claim to “the white schoolhouse” – where, in 1854, the Republican Party that would soon include Abraham Lincoln as a member was formed.
It’s not uncommon for agencies to share patches, challenge coins, and even buckles with other agencies as a sign of respect and camaraderie – with some departments even displaying the items received in prominent locations for the public to see.
