The Ripon Police Department is seeking young people who are interested in law enforcement.
The Police Explorer Program is available to those age 14 through 21 – they would be educated, trained while being prepped for a career in the field by local police.
“Our goal is to develop today’s youth by showing them at an early age all aspects of what it takes to be an officer,” said RPD via website.
Explorers will meet bi-weekly – one the first and third Sunday of each month – at the Ripon Police Department.
At each meeting, Explorers will work on learning the penal code, vehicle code, 10 code, radio communication, proper searching techniques, use of force tactics, and arrest and control, to name a few.
Members of the Explorers would also serve the community by assisting in various events, including the Almond Blossom Festival, 4th of July, National Night Out, Main Street Day, and many more.
Supervising the Explorer Team is Sgt. Jared Heuvel, with four of his advisors – Officer Gordon West, Detective Michael Perry, FTO Taylor Hosmer, and Officer Kaeli Nutt – in charge of running the program.
