The Ripon Parks & Recreation Department is planning to conduct dog training classes on Wednesday mornings beginning on Jan. 18.

This is the first of five sessions at Mavis Stouffer Park – dog training will take place in the lower area in the back of the park at 1000 Stouffer St. –  scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. The other sessions to follow would be Jan. 25, Feb. 1, Feb. 8, and Feb. 15.

Cost is $140.

According to Parks & Rec., all classes will be taught by a “bone-a-fide” dog trainer.

Each class is an hour long with a up to 30 minutes question & answer session to follow.

For classes to be a go, a minimum of four dogs will need to register before the 5 p.m. Jan. 13 deadline or the sooner, the better.

The goal is for each dog to have good manners around people along with other dogs, and to obey his or her owner during distracting situations.

Children age 10 or older can be involved but must be able to handle and control their dog coupled with having a parent in attendance.

In addition, all dogs will be required to be five months or older and have all of their shots (rabies, distemper, and parvo).

Parks & Rec. also announced the following:

·         Registration for the 2023 baseball, softball and tee ball programs is currently taking place. The deadline is Monday, Jan. 9. Signups for the softball leagues are already full but if more coaches volunteer, more players could be added to the league from the waiting list.

·         Soccer registration and signups for all summer programs including camps, clinics and lessons will begin in March.

Registration and other information can be obtained by logging on to www.cityofripon.org/recreation.
