Maintaining the roads around town continues to be a priority with the Ripon City Council.
Elected leaders on Tuesday approved American Pavement Systems to handle the South of Main Resurfacing Project.
“A lot of people are going to have improved streets,” said Mayor Leo Zuber.
American Pavement Systems, at $1.5 million, was awarded the project as the low bidder, beating out two other road contractors.
In addition to the street repairs and resurfacing planned in this area, the project also consists of sidewalk and handicap ramp construction to provide ADA accessibility.
The South of Main Resurfacing Project will include the resurfacing of various streets near Vera Avenue, Seventh Street, Main Street, and Jack Tone Road.
Funding for this project will come from the Street & Road Fund along with the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act grant.
This area was identified for work under the City’s Pavement Management Report that was last updated in 2020.
“The purpose of this report is to identify the Pavement Condition Index for Ripon streets and roads,” said City Administrator Kevin Werner in his staff report.
He added: “The PCI is established through visual inspections, which is then correlated with the Distress Identification Manual published by the Municipal Transportation Commission – the recommended target PCI for the City of Ripon is 70 out of 100, which generally means the pavement requires mostly preventative maintenance and has only low levels of distress such as minor cracks.”
