Tom Terpstra Jr., who was just approved as City Attorney for the City of Ripon, celebrated following being sworn in as a lawyer in 2022 by San Joaquin County Judge Tony Agbayani Jr.

The City of Ripon has a new city attorney with a familiar name.

During special session held Thursday, the Ripon City Council announced that Tom Terpstra Jr. was approved, 5-0, to fill the post held by his father, Tom Terpstra.

The older Terpstra said that Council met in closed session to discuss the position of City Attorney – he’s served the City of Ripon in that capacity since 1993 and, in 2013, was honored for 20 years of service.

“Deputy City Attorney Tom Terpstra Jr. was interviewed and ultimately selected to serve as City Attorney on a unanimous vote,” said Tom Terpstra of his son during the return to open session.

Staff was then directed to prepare a legal service agreement for elected leaders to consider at their Jan. 14 monthly meeting.
