The Ripon City Council recognized the accomplishments of Ripon High’s boys and girls water polo teams – both recently came home with Sac-Joaquin Section championship banners. Elected leaders noted at the March 12 meeting that recognitions such as this one will most likely be the first of many.

The Ripon City Council on many occasions recognizes the accomplishments of individuals, businesses, and organization.

Elected leaders recognized the Ripon High boys and girls water polo teams for their “hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, talent, and exceptional team chemistry,” according to the proclamation presented to Athletic Director Rod Wright by Mayor Leo Zuber at the March 12 monthly session.

The RHS water polo program is spearheaded by coach Christian Britton.

His boys team went 27-5 during the past season, capturing the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 2 banner by defeating Rocklin, 14-13, in the title game.

The girls squad posted a 21-11 mark while taking home the Division 3 crown, defeating Christian Brothers in the championship game, 13-3.

“Parents, staff, and school are important, too,” said Zuber, who had a distinguished career in education, serving as superintendent of the Ripon Unified School District.

He added: “They provide their support in many different ways so the kids can be successful in who they are.”

Zuber indicated that recognizing local students at city hall will most like be the first many.

“We have a couple of high schools in town that are successful in a lot of area,” he said.
