Ripon Consolidated Fire conducts survey for another tax vote

The Ripon Consolidated Fire District continues to move forward.

Back in August, RCFD’s Proposition 218 Assessment election was rejected by property owners, receiving 45.9 ‘yes’ votes.

Needed was 50 percent plus one vote for passage of the parcel tax, which, according to Fire Chief Eric DeHart, would have helped with staffing issues, including adding personnel to the unmanned Station 3 at North Ripon Road.

What’s next? DeHart, in his recent ‘The Torch’ newsletter, addressed that question.

“Your fire district has been busy looking at our options, even though everyone agrees this fire district needs to achieve a sustainable model, not everyone agrees on what needs to be done.

“The one thing I can say to reassure you is that we are not defeated – your fire district is more resolute than ever to provide the highest level of service you tax dollars can provide,” he said.

RCFD is currently seeking input in an effort to plan for the next Prop. 218, with a Ripon City sales tax not being an option.

RCFD’s coverage area is 56 square miles – including the rural areas – and is not part of the City of Ripon.

A survey is currently available at www.riponfire.com. Included online is a QR code for easy access.

DeHart is urging RCFD constituents to take some time to fill out this survey.

“This past year, we heard you loud and clear that ‘there was not enough information’ regarding the parcel tax – this is your opportunity to let your voice be heard and help shape where we go in the future,” he said in the newsletter.

The completed survey can be turned in or mailed to: Ripon Consolidated Fire District, 142 S. Stockton St., Ripon, CA 95366.

Those who would rather speak than fill out the survey can do so by calling 209.599.4209 option 3.
