It starts this week.
The Manteca Police Department announced Tuesday that the Red-Light Traffic Safety Program is now active at the intersection of Union Road and West Yosemite Avenue.
For the next 30 days, drivers caught running red lights at any direction at this intersection will receive warning notices instead of citations, giving everyone a chance to adjust their driving habits.
The warning period for this intersection will expire on May 8.
After that, police said via social media that fines of $490 will then be issued for violation, as administered by Verra Mobility – this initiative is aimed to enhance safety by using advanced camera technology to capture and verify traffic infractions
“We want the public to know how seriously we take this growing issue,” said Manteca Police Chief Stephen Schluer. “This warning period will give our community plenty of time to change their driving behavior before risking fines.”
The program will soon include North Main Street and East Louise Avenue, police added.
