Just how good are you at carving decorating, or painting, a pumpkin?

You can let “The Pumpkin Fair People”  — also known as the Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis  — be the judge of that during the 39th annual Pumpkin Fair this Saturday and Sunday in downtown Manteca.

They are staging the fifth annual Pumpkin Carving & Decorating Contest.

It is free to enter.

And you have a chance to win one of four $50 gift cards being awarded for the scariest, most original, ugliest, and best overall. The winners also get a trophy.

The process is simple for the contest sponsored by the Manteca Grocery Outlet store.

*Obtain your own pumpkin.

*It can be any size, big or small.

*Carve, paint or decorate it at home.

*Drop it off at the beer garden near the main stage at Wilson Park across from the post office on Manteca Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 5, by 5 p.m.

*The winners will be announced on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m.

The free two-day Pumpkin Fair event is Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6,  from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Manteca

The event offers community and Main Stage entertainment. Playing the Main Stage Saturday are GK Music from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Jim Anderson from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Triple D from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., and 8 Track Massacre from 4 to 6 p.m..

Sunday’s line-up includes GK Music from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Triple D from 1 to 2:15 p.m., and Latin Magic from 3 to 5p.m.

The music — and access — is free and so are the kids games with a pumpkin theme in Library Park.

More than 40,000 people attended last year’s event making it the biggest two-day party in Manteca.

The Sunrise Kiwanis over the past 39 years have generated more than $1.2 million for nonprofit groups serving youth, the elderly and the community by staging the fair.

There are nearly 200 vendors selling everything from foods and craft items to toys, CDs, and household items.

There are two stages of continuous entertainment, a paint and sip party, beer garden, a car show Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday plus the Pumpkin Patch/Kids Zone in Library Park.

The Pumpkin Patch features pumpkin rolling, pumpkin seed spitting, and pie eating among other contests.

You can purchase pumpkins as well.
