STOCKTON – Wyatt Windsor got the surprise of his young life Saturday night.
Visiting his grandparents in Stockton, his family from Long Beach celebrated his birthday with a party package for the Ports game at Banner Island Ballpark which includes a private barbecue area with a wonderful view of the game.
What Windsor did not know is that he was tapped to throw out the opening pitch.
“He didn’t know he was going to be throwing out the first pitch,” said Lindsey Windsor, Wyatt’s mother. “He is so elated.”
Wyatt’s grandfather Michael Ries appreciates the atmosphere at Banner Island.
“Unfortunately they live down in Southern California and we don’t get to have them up here very often,” Michael Ries said. “They love baseball and Wyatt is a huge, huge baseball fan. We were able to get a few friends together and enjoy the game. He had no idea he was going to throw out the first pitch.
“They do a wonderful on here at the park. the players are very generous and gracious. It’s wonderful and it’s a great atmosphere.”
The price is right as well. For a 10-person minimum it costs $35 for hot dogs, hamburgers, mac and cheese and sodas.
Hudson Pelley and his brother Grant of Stockton were in their seats an hour before game time with their grandparents Joe and Russtine Shephard.
“It’s really good to be out here,” Hudson Pelley said. “It’s fantastic actually.
“I like it here. This is my second Ports game.”
There is much more to a Ports game than just baseball.
