Fifteen portable classrooms are being relocated to three Manteca Unified elementary campuses impacted by growth.
The portables will come from August Knodt elementary and East Union High.
The district has selected the 15 that are in the best shape to relocate. They also will be refurbished.
The move is designed to provide needed seat capacity to get ahead of growth.
It is also an effort to maximize what facilities the district has instead of just disposing of the excess portables at August Knodt and the East Union portables that won’t be needed when the two-story classroom building now under construction along Union Road will be completed this summer.
Two portable classrooms will add 54 seats at Woodward, five portables will add 135 seats at Veritas, and eight portables will add 218 seats at Sequoia School.
Maximum program capacity in terms of student enrollment for the schools will be increased to 1.273 at Woodward, 1,196 at Sequoia, and 1,448 at Veritas.
Actual enrollment will be balanced with the associated staffing levels and programs in place at each school.
The portables are in addition to two new elementary schools the district plans on building south of the 120 Bypass.
One new campus will be built on Tinnin Road and the other northwest of McKinley Avenue and Woodward Avenue in southwest Manteca.
