The Ripon Community Center’s tennis courts will soon get four new pickleball nets.

No discussion was necessary Tuesday at the Ripon City Council on the approved purchase of four Douglas PPS-22SQ Premiere Portable Pickleball Net Systems in the amount not to exceed $10,339 – to be paid via the Parks and Recreation Capital Fund.

The package will include the post and base frames, hardware, transporter, and netting for a complete the net system, according to the staff report.

Elected leaders awarded the contract to Consolidated Engineering, Inc. to handle the work on the tennis courts at their Oct. 8 meeting.

Work was necessary given that the tennis courts had exceeded it useful life and was in need of replacing.

The improvement plan called for striping of the multi-use courts to accommodate four regulation tennis courts and eight pickleball courts.

“The tennis netting system that is being installed is permanent, but the pickleball net system is planned to be portable so anyone can move the netting system into and out of place on the courts,” said the staff report.
