Friday marked the 29th year of the Medieval Faire at Nile Garden School.
According to King Lewis the Wise – he’s the supreme ruler (as in teacher) and coordinator of the Medieval Faire at the rural Manteca Unified elementary school site – the event paid homage to life in Western Europe during the 9th and 15th centuries while involving one of the biggest groups.
All told, 140 seventh-grade students and 30 eighth graders took part in the Medieval Faire. “(Our seventh graders) spent the last couple of months learning about medieval history,” he said.
They came dressed to the event in costume that fit the time period – over the years, Nile Garden has accumulated its fair share of costumes from the previous Medieval Faires.
Students once again paraded in to kick off the festivities.
Seventh graders’ Leyla Bingham and Jayden Rodriguez served as this year’s queen and king. They enjoyed the perks of royalty by taking their place in the shaded Garden of the Nile tent.
King Rodriguez enjoyed taking his place at the center of the Medieval Faire. “We get the better seats,” he said.
The year-end event, in addition, featured singing, dancing, juggling, jousting, fencing, and the décor to fit the period.
