Summer is in the home stretch for students of the Manteca Unified School District.
They return to the classroom on Thursday, Aug. 8.
But in order to prepare for the upcoming school years, ninth graders at East Union High, Manteca High, Sierra High, Lathrop High and Weston Ranch High can acclimate to their new surroundings with help thanks to the student leadership program known as Link Crew.
These are the upperclassmen at the respective schools who, as Link Crew leaders, are given the responsibilities of tutoring, providing guidance and being that support system for the newcomers.
Here’s the schedule of events:
East Union High
The new student / ninth-grade orientation will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
In recent years, the Link Crew ice-breaking activities have taken place at the Dalben Center.
Round Up will also take place that day beginning with sophomores beginning at 10 a.m. and freshmen at 10:30 a.m.
On Friday, Aug. 2, Round Up for seniors will begin at 8 a.m. and juniors at 10 a.m.

Manteca High
Freshmen orientation is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 6, with the newcomers filing in at Guss Schmiedt Field that morning.
Buffalo Round Up will also take place that day for ninth- and 12th- grade students.
Sophomores and juniors will gather for Buffalo Round Up on Monday, Aug. 5.

Sierra High
The Link Crew event for freshmen is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7.
A barbecue lunch is planned for the newcomers at 11:30 followed by freshmen orientation and the distribution of class schedules at noon.
Seniors (7:30 a.m.), juniors (9:30 a.m.) and sophomores (12:30 p.m.) will convene at the school on Friday, Aug. 2.

Lathrop High
Newcomers will be welcomed to their new surroundings by Link Crew leaders from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.
Freshmen orientation will follow that day, going from noon to 3 p.m.
Spartans Unite is planned for Thursday, Aug. 1, with seniors with last name starting from A to L meeting up from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. followed by M to Z from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Juniors’ A to L will follow, going from 10 o’clock to 10:45, and those M to Z, from 10:45 to 11:30.
Spartans Unite for sophomores will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. (A to L) and 1:30 to 2:30 (M to Z).
Back to School Night at LHS will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 28, beginning with a barbecue in the quad at 5:30 p.m.
