Music on Maple marks Juneteenth on Thursday; skate event is Saturday

Manteca has two events celebrating Juneteenth.
The largest is the monthly Music on Maple from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, in the 100 block of Maple Avenue in downtown Manteca.

The Manteca Recreation & Community Services event includes live music, food trucks, a dance workshop, vendors, beer garden, and an art display.
Entry is free.

The theme is “Unity in Sound.”

Today, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., is  Juneteenth Celebration is taking place at the Manteca Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane.

It includes a historical presentation, trivia, art exhibit, music, dancing, and refreshments.

All ages are welcome to the free event.

 

Go Skate event Saturday

The Saturday, June 21, skate day event is at the skate park along the Tidewater Bikeway accessed at Elm Street and Center Street.

The Go Skate Day event will feature skating competitions, jams, runs, and professional demonstrations.

There will be food trucks, a disc jockey, vendor booth, and a cooling zone in place throughout the day.
You need to preregister for the event online or at the Manteca Recreation office at the senior center, 295 Cherry Lane, by Thursday, June 19.

Check-in on June 21 is 8 a.m.

 

Swimming lessons

There are two more Manteca Recreation & Community Services swim lessons available.
You have the option of group or private swim lessons at Lincoln Pool located on Powers Avenue across from the fire station.

Group lessons are offered on nine different skill levels with five programs designed for those 6 and older as well as four younger age specific programs for those nine months to three years, three to five years, four to six years, and six to 13 years.

There is also adaptive lessons for those with special needs.

There are two remaining group sessions.

Sessions cover two week periods, Monday through Thursday for eight lessons at 40 minutes each. The cost is $75 for Manteca residents and $85 for non-residents. Lessons take place at the Lincoln Park swimming pool.

The upcoming sessions are June 30-July 10 and July 14-24.

Private one-on-one swim lessons for 9 months through adults are available at the Lincoln Park pool for $130 for residents and $140 for non-residents. They are Monday through Thursday with  40-minute lessons.

 Registration for upcoming sessions closes at 6 p.m. the prior Thursday of the session you want your child in.

 

 Junior lifeguard camp

There is a Junior Lifeguard Camp that teaches basic safety and water techniques planned for  July 14-17.

Campers will build stamina through swimming and games. Students should be comfortable swimming Independently in deep water. Although it is taught by certified lifeguards, it is not a certification class.

Registration includes a T-shirt.

The cost is $125 for residents and $135 for non-residents.

Register by June 26 at 6 p.m.

The recreation office has relocated to 295 Cherry Lane at the Manteca Senior Center.
