The Manteca Police have a suspect in a felony theft case they are seeking the public’s help in locating.
According to Manteca Police Department Spokesman Joshua Gonzalez, officers are currently working to locate the suspect in the case that reportedly used coercion, intimidation, and deception to defraud an elderly male victim in Manteca out of more than $7,000.
The agency made a social media post thanking the public for its help in identifying the suspect after they posted a photograph of the man wearing a blue pinstriped suit and a red tie.
Details about how specifically the man defrauded the victim have not been released by police, citing the fact the investigation is active and ongoing.
Some online sleuths identified a mugshot photograph of a man bearing a striking resemblance to the man in the picture issued by Manteca Police. While authorities have not released the suspect’s name, the person in the mugshot is reportedly wanted in Alaska after authorities sought a warrant for his arrest for perpetrating a fake jewelry scam carried out across the rugged state.
According to an article in the Anchorage Daily News, the suspects were reportedly selling the fake jewelry as real – pretending to be stranded and needing quick cash to continue with their journey – and operated as part of a coordinated network.
Those scammers reportedly worked the roads from Fairbanks all the way to the Kenai Peninsula, and authorities tallied of dozens of reports of people that were victimized in a similar fashion.
