A 40-year-old motorcyclist from Lathrop was killed in a collision with a vehicle Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Louise and Hacienda avenues.
Witnesses said the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Louise Avenue at a high rate of speed at 3:48 p.m. when it collided with a vehicle turning from westbound Louise Avenue onto southbound Hacienda Avenue.
The motorcycle continued past the initial collision and collided into a light pole, which caused the light pole to fall down. The motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his fatal injuries.
The vehicle was driven by a 19 year-old Manteca man. There was a passenger in the car as well.
It was the second traffic fatality on Manteca streets this year.
The other was a pedestrian killed in August while crossing West Yosemite Avenue in front of the Kaiser Permanente Hospital.
Police arrested the driver of the vehicle who was charged with vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence of drugs.
Since 2010, 49 people have been killed in traffic accidents on the streets of Manteca.
That includes four years with six fatalities each — 2015, 2019, 2020, and 2022.
There have been six fatalities on the Highway 120 Bypass so far this year.
While the freeway passes through the city, it is under the jurisdiction of the CHP.
That means traffic facilities are not counted in Manteca Police statistics.
The Bypass deaths include four in a van rollover westbound approaching the Van Ryn Avenue crossing in March, a homeless individual struck crossing near the Main Street interchange in May, and a fatality in a rear-end collision eastbound near the Main Street interchange in August.
