The Fleet Maintenance Facility has been in operation for several months.
One more change order was needed to the City of Ripon’s new corporate yard for an additional gas line shoring and modifications to the HVAC units in the amount “not to exceed” $14,314.
No discussion was necessary at Tuesday’s monthly session as the Ripon City Council approved this staff recommendation.
The work will be paid via various sources, including Corp Yard AB1600 Fund, Enterprise Capital Funds, and General Capital Fund.
According to the staff report by Public Works Director James Pease, the additional shoring was required by PG&E during the gas tie-in excavation that was above and beyond what was initially anticipated due to the depth and location of the main line.
He noted that additional shutdown switches/wiring had to be added to the HVAC units and were tied into the fire alarm system in order to shut down all airflow in the event of a fire. “This was not originally included in the design although (it) was required as part of the fire department approval,” Pease said.
Diede Construction, Inc. was awarded the Fleet Maintenance Facility Project – a 12,500 square maintenance building and parking lot – back in December 2022.
Cost for the project is currently at $11.9 million, including 16 change orders tacked on the original contract price ($11.1 million).
It replaced the aging corporate yard built in 1976 located several blocks away on Doak Boulevard.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held this past October to mark the opening of the Fleet Maintenance Facility.
