Melissa Beattie was named the new principal at Lathrop High.
Manteca Unified made that announcement Thursday as current Principal Greg Leland gears up for retirement at the conclusion of this school year.
Beattie, who has 22 years of experience in education, has been the Assistant Principal at LHS, and will be the fourth principal of the school.
“I am humbled and honored to lead Spartan Nation,” she said via social media (proudtobemusd). “I will continue to build strong relationships with staff, students, and the community as we maintain our collective responsibility to support students through strong Professional Learning Communities and a multi-tiered system to support.
“My priority is to ensure that all students feel safe and supported so that they can take academic risks and thrive far beyond high school.”
Beattie began her career in education as a teach at Stockton Unified, where she also served as an instructional coach before becoming assistant principal at Stagg High.
She worked at Tracy Unified School District for six years, serving as the Professional Learning and Curriculum Director.
From there, Beattie moved over to MUSD. She was lead negotiator as well as a California Teachers Association state delegate, a lead reviewer for the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing Induction Program Accreditation Review, and is certified in Cognitive Coaching.
She has her masters in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and her doctorate in Education Administrative Leadership.
