The margin of the City of Manteca’s Measure Q sales tax yes votes increased to 242 on Monday.
The San Joaquin County of Registrar of Voters still has several thousand votes that were not cast in person on election to verify signatures before they can be counted.
The yes margin is up 93 votes from 149 on Friday.
Last Monday the margin was 138.
The count now stands at 15,952 to 15,750.
And while the odds are in favor of passage, backers of the Measure Q effort and not confident enough to declare victory.
The measure requires 50 percent plus one vote to impose a three-quarter of a cent sales tax for 20 years.
If it passes, the tax would go into effect Jan. 1.
It is projected to raise $13 million a year for the city’s general fund.
