You can use Manteca parks to frolic on grassy areas - but not much more - if you practice social distancing.

Manteca’s city parks are now re-opened — to a degree.

Just don’t expect to use hard-surface areas, playground or workout equipment, ball diamonds, participate in formal or informal games, or hangout with people who are not part of your immediate household. Other than that feel free to frolic on grassy areas providing, of course, you practice 6-foot social distancing.

It is the latest development in the ever evolving COVID-19 rules and responses.

Other developments include:
*The City of Manteca has ended its free disposal of large items and trash  drop-off sites at Northgate Park, the Manteca Civic Center, and the Solid Waste Division on Wetmore Avenue.

*The municipal golf course is now open with 51 restrictions in place starting with you must book tee times in advance, stay in your vehicle until your time comes up, pay electronically, and only one person per golf cart unless the second person is from your immediate household among other rules.

*Prestige Assisted Living at Manteca is encouraging people to brighten a resident’s day by sending letters, cards, and homemade art work. (Details appear below).

*There were 8 new COVID-19 cases countywide in the 24-hour period ending at 5 p.m. Tuesday with no new deaths or patients placed in intensive care units during the past week with one new hospitalization. There have been 529 confirmed cases and 25 deaths so far in the county.

*As of Monday, there were only 25 hospitalized COVID-19 patients at the various hospitals in the county of which 9 were in intensive care units.

*Supervisor Tom Patti has dropped plans for now to hold an outside gathering with social distancing measures in Manteca to meet with small business owners to get input on reopening small businesses due to concerns voiced it would violate the governor’s order limiting gatherings to 10 people.

*The City of Manteca has given places of worship the green light to conduct drive-in services as long as people stay in their vehicles at all times and the occupants are all from the same immediate household.

*The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Tuesday agreed to a deal with Motel 6 on Navy Drive in Stockton to house non-COVID-19 positive at risk homeless people at the 76 room complex from May 5 through June 30 with a contingency to extend the contract through Sept. 30.

The $798,418 cost for the first two months also includes transportation to the motel, snacks, three meals a day, hygiene supplies, and laundry services for homeless costs will be covered primarily with state funds.

However, county taxpayers are on the hook for costs necessary to restore the premises to their original conditions or any other unexpected expenses.
