A Manteca truck driver was arrested this week in Arizona after his out-of-control vehicle caused a massive accident that killed one person and sent several other to the hospital.
And he’s being charged with murder.
Karan Singh, a 28-year-old from Manteca, reportedly slammed his truck into the rear of three cars that were waiting for the light to change and sent all of the vehicles into a nearby gas station before the truck and another vehicle burst into flames.
According to the Arizona Republic, Singh left the scene of an accident and went to a nearby Mexican food restaurant where he ordered a burrito that he was eating when officers arrived and took him into custody.
Singh is currently being held in the La Paz County Jail on a charge of second degree murder as well as eight counts of aggravated assault for the accident. Two of the victims were airlifted from the scene to a hospital in Phoenix where they were initially listed in critical condition.
The crash was caught on security cameras of a nearby business and show the truck that Singh was driving – bearing the name of a trucking company headquartered in Manteca – barreling straight into the back of the three cars as they waited for the light to turn.
Parker, Arizona is located near the state’s border with California just south of Lake Havasu City and above the Colorado River Reservation.
An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and police are awaiting a full toxicology report to determine whether Singh was under the influence at the time of the crash.
