Manteca Rec: Youth development, farmers’ market & swim lessons

Manteca has a long list of fun offerings this summer ranging from swim lessons and a farmers market to classes aimed at helping youth develop social and other skills.

Manteca Parks & Community Services has four programs designed for youth development.

They include a summer day camp, Mini Me Artists, toddler time, and Little People’s Creative Play.

The four-week Summer Day Camp takes place July 5 through July 28.

Designed from kindergarten through sixth grade, the day camp offers fun activities, special guests, field trips as well as activities based on health and fitness.

The fee is $200 a week for five days or $185 a week for four days, Monday through Thursday only.

The Mini Me Artists endeavor features four sessions on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. that take place June 3-17, July 8-22, Aug. 8-19, and Sept. 9-23.

The class is designed for 18 months to 2 years. Parent participation is required.

It provides an opportunity for fun, quality time together as parents and tots explore a variety of art materials.

The fee is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents.

Toddler Time for those 2 to 3 years of age is a parent participation class integrating social and listening skills through educational basics such as singing, stories as well as arts and crafts.

A snack is provided.

Monday sessions from 9:30 to 11 a.m. are June 5-19, July 3-17, Aug. 7-21, and Sept. 11-25.

Friday sessions from  9:30 to 11 a.m. are June 9-23, July 7-21, Aug. 4-18, and Sept. 8-22.

The fee is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents.

Little People’s Creative Play group is for ages 3 to 5.

It is not a parent participation  class although children must be potty trained.

The preschool program emphasizes play skills, motor coordination, and social experiences. Activities include crafts, letter and number recognition, songs, snacks, and more.

Tuesday sessions from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. are July 11-25, Aug. 8-29, and Sept. 5-29.

Wednesday sessions from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. are July 5-26, Aug. 9-20, and Sept. 6-27.

Friday sessions from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. are July 6-27, Aug. 10-31, and Sept. 7-28.

Fees are $50 for residents and $60 for non-residents.

 

 

Market in Maple

Saturdays thru October

The Market on Maple — a certified farmers’ market — is Saturdays through Oct. 28 in the 100 block of Maple Avenue in downtown Manteca from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It offers fresh local produce, artisan food products, fresh based sweets, hot food and cold drinks

There is no market June 3 or Oct 7 due to other downtown events.

Swim less & other

water offerings

Manteca Recreation & Community Services has  group and private swim lessons at Lincoln Pool located on Powers Avenue across from the fire station.

Group lessons are offered on nine different skill levels with five programs designed for those 6 and older as well as four younger age specific programs for those nine months to three years, three to five years, four to six years, and six to 13 years.

There is also adaptive lessons for those with special needs.

There are six sessions. Four sessions cover two week periods, Monday through Thursday for eight lessons at 40 minutes each. The cost is $75 for Manteca residents and $85 for non-residents. Lessons take place at the Lincoln Park swimming pool.

.The upcoming sessions are June 5-15, June 19-29, July 3-13, and July 17-27. The July 3-13 session is one day shorter due to Independence Day and has the rate adjusted accordingly.

There are two one week sessions also Monday through Thursday July 31-Aug. 3 and Aug. 7-10  in the evenings. They have prorated fees of $38 for city residents and $48 for non-city residents.

Private one-on-one swim lessons for 9 months through adults are available at the Lincoln Park pool for $125 for residents and $135 for non-residents. It consists of four Monday through Thursday 40-minute lessons. Lessons are offered June 5 through July 27. There are two sessions available on Saturday for private lessons. One session is June 11, 18, 25, and July 2. The second session is July 9, 16, 23, and 30.  

 Registration for upcoming sessions closes at 6 p.m. the prior Thursday of the session you want your child in.

 

Manteca adding Pup Pool

Party among aquatic offerings

A Pup Pool Party is planned for Saturday, Aug, 19.

The pool is being reserved for dogs to go for a swim and cool off.

Lifeguards will be on duty. Children must be accompanied  by adults. Owners may enter free of charge.

Registration by Aug. 17 is required.
