A local police officer is out on paid administrative leave.

The Manteca Police Department received notification this week that Officer Ryan Castro is under investigation by the Ripon Police Department for a May 1, 2024 incident that occurred while he was off-duty and outside the City of Manteca jurisdiction.

“With the criminal investigation now being completed and charges filed by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, Officer Castro has surrendered himself to the San Joaquin County Jail,” said Manteca police via social media on Monday.

Police added: “We are now proceeding with our internal administrative process.”

Officer Castro has been employed with Manteca police since June 2018. Prior to that, he worked for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

As this is a personnel matter, the Manteca Police Department and the City of Manteca noted that they are unable to provide further detail nor comment any further.
