Manteca Police arrested a suspect in a Modesto carjacking Thursday.

The high risk traffic stop that occurred behind stores next to Safeway in the Walmart center in South Main Street at 11:40 a.m. had several tense moments.

When a Delta RATT auto task force vehicle and a Manteca Police unit pulled in behind the suspect vehicle the driver put the vehicle in reverse and backed towards the Manteca Police patrol vehicle. After approximately 30 seconds of driving her vehicle forward and then reverse towards the patrol unit, she turned off the vehicle and surrendered.

The incident started in Modesto when a female used a chrome handgun to carjack a silver Dodge Neon. Manteca Police were advised of the carjacking at 11 a.m.

Delta RATT Detectives located the suspect vehicle in Manteca. They followed the vehicle until a marked patrol unit could respond. The Neon pulled into a parking stall in the alley behind New York Diamonds. The traffic stop took place and arrests made.

The victim responded to the scene and positively identified the driver as the suspect in the carjacking. The passenger in the suspect vehicle was found to have a loaded firearm as well as a felony warrant for his arrest.

Modesto Police responded and took over the carjacking investigation. The female suspect was transported to Stanislaus County Jail on charges of carjacking and armed robbery. Manteca Police took the male into custody for the firearm violations as well as the warrant. He was later transported to San Joaquin County Jail.

The female — Anjelica Marcia Gonzales, 24, of Modesto — was found with a Jennings .22 caliber handgun. The male —  Salvador Perez, 27, of Salida — was found with a High Point 9mm handgun. Both handguns were loaded. The 9mm was reported stolen out of Mariposa County.

Gonzales was arrested on carjacking, robbery and various firearm charges.

Perez was arrested on charges of a felon in possession of a firearm, a felon in possession of ammo, and a possession of a stolen firearm.
