Manteca is celebrating its 107th birthday on Thursday, May 15, at the year’s first Music on Maple event.
It takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the 100 block of North Maple anchored by the post office in downtown Manteca.
The City of Manteca Recreation and Community Services event includes food trucks and other vendors, live music, a beer garden hosted by Brethren Brewery, and a cake cutting ceremony.
There is free entry. No outside alcohol permitted.

Manteca voters approved a measure to incorporate as a city on May 28, 1918.
By June 8, 1918 after the successful election, Manteca was officially incorporated as a city with just over 200 residents
The first year was spent getting sewer bonds passed, repairing and extending streets, shoring up the volunteer fire department, property owners were fined for not clearing their lots of weeds, a marshal and deputy marshal were hired and ordinances governing citizens’ behavior were adopted.
Among the other issues was speeding and congestion on Yosemite Avenue.
Joshua Cowell — who is credited with founding the townsite in the 1870s around his farmhouse that once stood where Bank of America is today — was elected as its first mayor.
