A 23-year-old Manteca man was shot and killed shortly after midnight on Sunday morning in what Manteca Police are calling an “isolated incident.”
Francisco Lara, 23, was discovered by Manteca Police near the 200 block of North Main Street suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers remained on scene and rendered aid until EMS personnel arrived, and lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful – Lara was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 33-year-old Edward Lemar Young Jr., reportedly fled the scene and was discovered four blocks away by officers and promptly taken into custody. Witnesses to the shooting identified Young as the man that pulled the trigger, and he was arrested on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Young is also being charged with a parole violation. He is due to appear in Department 1 of the Manteca branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court today at 1:30 p.m. to answer to those charges.
The circumstances that led up to the shooting are still being investigated, and Manteca Police are encouraging anybody that may information about the incident or what transpired just before it to contact Detective Garret Morrison at 209.456.8101.
