The National Weather Service issued an urgent heat advisory on Monday.

The heat advisory calls for high temperatures up to 100 to 108 degrees expected in this area of the San Joaquin Valley – from Stockton to Modesto – effective from now through 11 p.m. Thursday.

“(The) hottest days will be Tuesday and Wednesday, with widespread moderate heat risk across the Valley and Foothills, and areas of Major Heat Risk in the Valley on Tuesday. Warm overnight temperatures will bring little relief,” said the National Weather Service office in Sacramento.

For those looking to beat the heat, the following locations will be available:

·         Manteca – Cooling Center at His Way Refuge Center, 555 Industrial Park Drive., will be open beginning at 11 a.m.

·         Lathrop – Cooling Zone, Lathrop Police Department, Community Room, 940 River Island Parkway, from noon to 7 p.m. The Cooling Zone will close if no arrivals by 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service warns that the hot conditions may cause heat illnesses, urging residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and take time to check on relatives and neighbors.
