A lit candle placed too close to a television started an apartment fire in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue causing $20,000 in damage Thursday morning.

It was one of three residential fires Manteca Fire responded to during a 36-hiur period in addition to multiple medical calls as well as a dumpster fire.

The apartment fire Thursday at 11:29 a.m. was called into 9-1-1 with information that a person and dog were still possibly in the apartment.

Arriving units were prepared to make a rescue effort; however, two neighbors were able to get the woman resident out of her apartment and to a safe location.

The woman was treated and transported by Manteca District Ambulance to a hospital.

The fire was out when firefighters arrived although there was still light smoke coming from the first floor unit.

Nineteen firefighters from the City of Manteca and Lathrop Manteca responded.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour for salvage and overhaul efforts.

There were three fires Friday night and early Saturday morning despite steady rain.
