Right-of-way connected with widening of Austin Road as part of the 120 Bypass/Highway 99 connector project has been accepted by the Manteca City Council.
Austin Road is being widened from a point south of the new Singh Street being constructed and a point just north of the Frontage Road on the east side of Highway 99.
Singh Street is a new connector street to Atherton Drive south of Woodward Avenue from Austin Road.
Caltrans also obtained right-of-way for Singh Street and the realignment of Woodward Avenue so it can intersect with Moffat Boulevard at a 90-degree angle.
The city also will receive right-of-of-way for those two roads given it will be the city’s responsibility to maintain them once they are completed.
Given the replacement Austin Road bridge across Highway 99 that will be built after the current one is demolished also will span the tracks, future traffic going to and from Moffat and Austin will need to use Singh Street-Atherton Drive-Woodward Avenue to do so.
The overpass will be demolished later this year and replaced with a four-lane structure with turning lanes similar to the Lathrop Road overcrossing of Highway 99.
That will allow additional lanes to be built on Highway 99 to improve traffic movements to and from the 120 Bypass.
The first phase also includes adding a second transition lane from 120 Bypass eastbound to southbound Highway 99.
