Dawson Mix is new to the theater program at East Union High.
But he’s familiar with performing in front of an audience.
He plays Seymour Krelborn in the Playbox Company’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors” – based on the Roger Corman B-film of the same name with the book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken.
Mix is a bass player. He’s also a member in two bands ‘Better Late than Never’ and ‘Talisman.’
As for theater, Mix was seen in the Iced Coffee House performance of “My Fatal Valentine.”
“Little Shop of Horrors,” which opened last week in the EU Black Box Theatre, will have a second weekend performance on Friday and Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets are be purchased online for $10 at http://our.show/eastunionhighschool/807 or $12 at the EU box office before the show at 6:15 p.m.
“Little Shop of Horrors” – directed by EU teacher Annette Taser, choreographed by Melissa Bugarin-Campos, and music directed by Gary Fritzen – is a musical and dark comedy about Seymour, a meek flower shop assistant who pines for his co-worker Audrey.
During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant in which he names the Audrey II.
As it turns out, the Audrey II is a plant that feeds off of human flesh and blood in order to grow. This unusual plant also brings fame and fortune to the previously struggling flower shop.
Stephanie Ordway is one of the many behind the scenes in bringing the Audrey II alive. She’s one of the puppeteers and a stage manager. She also performed in “Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs,” “Crushed,” and most recently “Grease.”
East Union High is located at 1700 Union Rd.
