The Riptide softball and baseball teams will call Champions Field Community Park ‘home’ this season.
The Lathrop City Council recently approved a facility fee waiver request from River Islands High for both spring sports team, in accordance with the City of Lathrop Fee Waiver Policy.
Under the agreement, River Islands High baseball and softball will play and practice at the park located at 2100 Garden Farms Ave., in the River Islands community.
They’ll have the baseball fields available for practices and home games from Monday through Friday 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., from now through May 30.
The River Islands High is in its first year of varsity sports, with the new campus opening back in August – some of the high school facilities are still under construction.
According to the Dec. 9 staff report, the fees associated with the facility fee waiver request totaled $77,534.
Elected leaders agreed with the staff recommendation that facility fee waiver for the new high school “would provide a public benefit to the community and that the amount of the request is de minimis in nature.”
