The City of Lathrop just launched its own micro-transit service.
“Lathrop Transit,” as it’s called, is a flexible, on-demand transportation service aimed improving mobility throughout the city.
“The service will link riders to fixed transit routes and enable point-to-point travel within city limits, delivering a more convenient and accessible public transportation option,” according to Lathrop SMART City News’ summer 2025 edition.
As for fares, a trip within the city will cost $2. There are discounted fares of $1 for those age 62 and older, youth / students age 17 or younger, and anyone who is ADA-eligible.
Hours of operations are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for the exception of holidays.
This new service is under the operation of United Transit, which employs trained professional drivers to handle the fleet of branded Lathrop Transit vans for convenient transportation.
Lathrop Transit is there to help residents get to work, medical appointments, shopping, and other essential destinations.
Services will soon expand to “School Tripper,” consisting of fixed routes in the morning and afternoon, specifically for students to get to school – this is not a school bus, said the City of Lathrop, making also available to the public.
For the past three years, the City of Lathrop has worked to develop a public transit system to serve its residents and visitors, especially with the population continuing to increase coupled with the need to their school sites as well as connecting people to existing public transit services currently operated by San Joaquin Regional Transit District, Altamont Corridor Express, and the City of Manteca’s transit services.
Funding for that first year is expected to come from various sources, including the Transportation Development Act, Local Transportation Fund, Measure K, Measure C, fares, and miscellaneous revenue.
