Lathrop temporally waives its adoption fees for dogs

The Lathrop Police Department really wants you to take an animal home from its shelter.

They want you to take an animal home from the shelter so bad, in fact, that they’re waiving the adoption fee to remove any barriers between loving homes and the animals that desperately need them.

The city’s new temporary kennels – which were installed at the City of Lathrop’s corporation yard – are currently bursting at the seams despite the efforts of staffers to connect those who want pets with those that need homes. While workers have held adoption events at the city’s July 1st birthday celebration and the Juneteenth Celebration at the Lathrop Generations Center, since June the city has adopted out a total of 14 dogs and one goat.

For a limited time, the adoption fees for new animals that are currently housed at the shelter and all animals will be spayed or neutered and microchipped before they are taken home – a commitment to the Lathrop Police Department’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the animals end up in a “secure, loving, and nurturing” environment for the rest of their days.

The Lathrop Police are also using technology to try and ensure that the dogs and other animals that end up the shelter find a safe home – posting the animals on websites such as www.petfinder.com, www.adoptapet.com, and www.24petconnect.com to try and match them with prospective owners.

To search for an animal, type in Lathrop’s ZIP code – 95330 – into the search bar on the respective website.

For additional information, or to setup a meeting with the Lathrop Police Department Community Services Division to meet one of the animals, contact the Lathrop Police Department at 209.647.6400.
