Lathrop is joining Manteca, Ripon, Tracy, Stockton, and Lodi in looking to establish its first-ever Poet Laureate.
The City of Lathrop recently received funding and support from the Library and Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County for this program.
“The goal is to inspire resident, especially our youth, to develop a life-long appreciation of literature and poetry, invest in Lathrop’s human capital and talent, and build its capacity and advocacy for reading and literacy programs,” the City of Lathrop said Wednesday via social media.
Applications are currently being accepted to those interested.
This person must be able to meet the qualifications and requirements of the program.
The deadline to submit applications to the City of Lathrop is Friday, Nov. 15.
Just like Manteca, Ripon, and the other cities, the Poet Laureate position in Lathrop will cover a three-year period.
The person selected will be capped at serving no more than two consecutive terms or six straight years.
