The City of Lathrop Police Department will be out on patrol between now and Labor Day (Sept. 2).

Additional officers are being brought on, looking out for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs.

“The additional efforts to prevent impaired driving are part of a national enforcement campaign, ‘Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over,’” said local police via social media.

In addition, the Lathrop Police Department will be conducting a DUI / CDL Checkpoint on Sunday, Sept. 1, from 7:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city of Lathrop.

Funding for the ‘Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over’ program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to NHTSA, 13,524 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes in 2022 or one person every 39 minutes.

Police also warn drivers not to take prescription, over-the-counter medications, and cannabis products while behind the wheel.
