St. Patrick’s Day is Monday.

But they’ll be various celebrations at area drinking establishments for this religious and cultural feast day over the weekend.

Local police asked those with such plans to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day responsibly by avoiding driving under the influence.

“Plan ahead, stay safe, and make sure everyone gets home safely,” said Lathrop police via social media earlier this week.

Additional officers will be on patrol on March 17 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs.

“Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day responsibly is about protecting not just yourself but everyone on the road,” said Lathrop police Sgt. Chris Ly. “Let’s work together to make this holiday memorable for all the right reasons – make a plan for a safe ride home.”

As always, police urge those celebrating to designate a sober driver, use ride-sharing services or public transportation, look out for others, and stay alert.
