Lathrop Police officers continue to take DUI drivers off streets
DUI

The City of Lathrop Police Department continues to display zero tolerance for DUI and reckless driving.

Several which took place in previous weeks.

Police posted via social media an incident that occurred on the River Islands Bridge on Jan. 17, with officers responding to a disabled vehicle blocking traffic while causing significant delays.

Officers, directing traffic around the scene, conducted an investigation, determining that the driver had a blood alcohol content “thee times the legal limit.”

The driver was arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail.

On the following day (Jan. 18), Officer Myles Richter observed a reckless driver in white GMC, causing friction marks on the roadway upon leaving the Sonic Drive-in parking lot at 15107 Harlan Rd.  The driver, an 18-year-old man from French Camp, was cited for reckless driving. His car was impounded for 30 days.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, officers responded to a solo vehicle collision in the River Islands community following multiple 9-1-1 calls.

The vehicle – a gray Tesla – was located about 40 feet off the roadway.

Officers determined that the driver, a 20-year-old Tracy man, was driving at a high rate of speed and was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The driver sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. His passenger was unharmed and released on-site. The Tesla was towed from the scene.

“We want to remind everyone of the importance of designating a sober driver and refraining from drinking and driving.

“Such actions not only endanger your life but also the lives of others in our community. Reckless driving poses similar risks and can lead to preventable tragedies,” Police said.
