Lathrop opens application for lottery to seek possible fireworks sales booth

Nonprofits in Lathrop hoping to make money for their organizations through the sale of fireworks have until the end of this month to submit their application to be considered in the annual lottery.

The Lathrop Manteca Fire District announced this week that they are accepting applications from nonprofits that wish to host a fireworks booth in the community – randomly selecting in a raffle drawing the recipients of the available slots – and that organizations will have until Jan. 31 to submit their completed applications.

A copy of the application can be picked up at Fire Station 35 – located at 19001 Somerston Parkway – during normal business hours.

According to that application, organizations need to list their tax-exempt certificate, a list of members that live in the community, and a letter from the school that the organization represents if it applies for the respective group. Both the president and a member of the board of the organization must sign the permit application.

While communities throughout San Joaquin County permit the sale of safe-and-sane fireworks, Lathrop has taken an aggressive stance in going after those who use illegal aerial or exploding fireworks or use safe-and-sane fireworks improperly – implementing the use of an application that allows for citations to be issued and by partnering with the fire district to beef up law enforcement patrols during the holiday fireworks window.
