Pia Marie Calub was one of two valedictorians at Lathrop High.

She encouraged her classmates to “keep the momentum going” at Friday’s Graduation Ceremony held in Bennie Gatto Field at Paul Wiggin Stadium.

The outdoor event was met with strong winds – the over 420 of the classmates who received their diplomas did their best to hold on to their mortar board caps.

For Principal Melissa Beattie, the Class of 2024 will always be special given that this was her graduating group. She spent last year working with now-retired Principal Greg Leland before taking over as the top administrator this year.

The ceremony kicked off with the Lathrop High Band under the direction of Desiree Bugarin performing the processional tune, “Pomp & Circumstance.”

The LHS JROTC color guard presented the color as Francine Cano led in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the school band’s playing of the National Anthem.

Kaleb De Leon Constantino had the honor of delivering the Senior Spartan Speech. He was followed by Dr. Beattie’s message – she would later present the classmates for the distribution of their diplomas to the Manteca Unified school board – and Math teacher Agatha Smith announcing the CSF Awards.

Salutatorian Suhani Banwait talked about “living up to one’s full potential.”

Kristen Gleason acknowledged those students who were honor cord recipients, with Calub and co-valedictorian Neil Yang giving their speeches.

The new graduates departed from the ceremony with the playing of the recessional by the LHS band.
