One of two archways in Lathrop is located on 5th Street near Louise Avenue in historic part of the town.

The Lathrop Gateway Arches are shaping up along the historic part of town.

That’s the project consisting of the construction of two roadway arches along 5th Street near the Lathrop Road and Louise Avenue intersections.

Back in September, the Lathrop City Council awarded Frontline General Engineering Construction, Inc. to handle the construction of the two gateway arches consisting of a truss structural system and electrical components along with removing and replacing of sidewalk, doing the landscape, and installing a new irrigation system.

According to the staff report, Frontline – one of six contractors to bid on the project – had the low bid of $938,489. Couple that with the authorized 15 percent construction contingency of $140,774, which brought the total construction budget to $1,079,264 (paid via Measure C Fund to the CIP Project Fund, as subject to review and approval by the Measure C Oversight Committee).

The plan of constructing the two roadway archways goes back to July 10, 2023. City Council had created the Capital Improve Project for the beautification of historic Lathrop.

“Historic Lathrop, generally known as the area bounded by Lathrop Road on the north, Louise Avenue on the south, Harlan Road on the west, and 7th Street on the east, predates the City’s incorporation in 1989.”

“Construction of the Lathrop Gateway Arches will memorialize the historical significance and create an appealing entryway into the neighborhood,” said staff report from the Sept. 9 City Council meeting.
