If you needed to do anything at Lathrop City Hall, it’s going to have to wait until next year.
Starting today the city’s administrative offices – located at 390 Towne Centre Drive – will be closed for the rest of 2019. The closure, which will affect all city departments at the main city hall building, will extend through Jan. 1, 2020, and city offices will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
But that doesn’t mean that the city is shut down completely during the closure.
Those that need city services for things like public works issues – broken pipes, water mains, etc. – can call the City of Lathrop’s on-call public works operator at 209.992.0028 in the event of an emergency that requires a departmental response.
Because Christmas and New Year’s fall in the middle of the week, the city council approved a request by staff to give employees the time off rather than have fractured operational hours. It was a move that was copied by the City of Manteca this year for the first time, and Manteca will also have an on-call service for essential city services during the closure. But unlike Manteca, Lathrop contracts for its police services and has fire service provided by an independent agency, which means that the city’s closure will have a much smaller fiscal impact – the city won’t have to provide extra days off for contracted police services outside of what was agreed to in the city’s contract with the County of San Joaquin, and the Lathrop Manteca Fire District operates independent of the Lathrop City Council.
But the closure will impact some of the previously scheduled civic meetings for Lathrop residents.
The City of Lathrop’s Youth Advisory Commission was originally scheduled to conduct its normal business on New Year’s Day, but that meeting was postposed, as was the city’s Park and Recreation Commission meeting.
In the event that a resident needs city services during the week-long closure, they can contact the City of Lathrop’s on-call public works operator at 209.992.0028. For additional information about the closure, visit the City of Lathrop’s website at www.ci.lathrop.ca.us.
