Juniper tree fire threatens several homes

Manteca firefighters Thursday night prevented an outdoor fire from damaging several homes.

Just before 11 p.m. Thursday, the fire department was dispatched to Louise Avenue and Union Road.

Upon arrival west of the dispatched location, firefighters found a large smoke column with multiple juniper trees torching off along with grass, debris, a fence, and multiple structures threatened.

Additional engine companies — including a Lathrop Fire engine — were also dispatched as it was determined the significant fire activity imminently threatened structures

The initial  crew went through multiple fences to access the fire and begin fire suppression.

Other engine companies arrived to support the initial fire attack and check for extension into the adjacent structures.

Units remained on scene for over an hour to complete extinguishment.

Due to the aggressive tactics, fire attack, and early resource ordering of the initial engine company upon arrival, the fire was contained to the trees, grass, back yard contents, and one fence. This prevented fire spread to the adjacent homes.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
